Our $50,000 Donation Makes a Difference for Loved Ones of American Heroes

Freedom isn’t free. We’ve heard the stories. Some of us have even experienced the tragedies. And while we never fully move on, we do continue to move.

We want to help people continue to move. For the fifth year in a row, TravelCenters of America is honored to announce that we have teamed up with Mobil Delvac to donate $50,000 to Folds of Honor on behalf of our guests as a thank you for your loyalty. With every stop at a TA Truck Service, our guests made this donation possible. Thank you! This $50,000 donation will help provide scholarships to the loved ones of fallen and disabled American heroes.

When Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney’s flight home from his second tour of duty in Iraq landed, the family of Corporal Brock Bucklin waited for the flag-covered casket of their loved one. That night, Lt. Colonel Rooney committed his life to Folds of Honor, providing scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members. It is how Lt. Colonel Rooney continues to move. Jacob Bucklin, Corporal Bucklin’s son, became the first Folds of Honor scholarship recipient in 2007. Folds of Honor has awarded nearly 29,000 scholarships since and helped many families.

Families like the Campbells. Listen to the Campbells’s story:

The Campbells may look familiar – their photo graces the top of this blog. Folds of Honor helped the Campbells start over again, while still honoring Major Shawn Campbell. While the scholarships provided are for the children’s education, the organization goes beyond that. Folds of Honor provided the Campbells with a new place to call home, a caring community that truly knows the family, hope and the freedom to dream of the future.
