Building Safer Communities: TA and TAT Expand Multi-State Anti-Trafficking Efforts
WESTLAKE, OH — TravelCenters of America (TA), part of the bp portfolio, is expanding its frontline anti-human trafficking training in partnership with TAT (formerly Truckers Against Trafficking), reinforcing the role truck stops and travel centers play in safeguarding freight corridors and the communities that depend on them. The Junction Briefing initiative focuses on education and awareness at sites in high traffic areas of the country.
In 2025, TA and TAT delivered four Junction Briefings in high-traffic transport areas - Commerce City, CO; Oklahoma City, OK; Phoenix, AZ; and Eloy, AZ. In total, 215 front-line employees across fuel, food service, maintenance, and operations roles attended the trainings. These briefings laid important groundwork by deepening regional connections and enhancing frontline employee preparedness in some of the nation’s busiest travel corridors.
“Human trafficking has no place in our communities, and we want to use our national footprint, our people, and our partnerships to help stop it. Our collaboration with TAT enables us to equip frontline employees with the knowledge and confidence to take action when something doesn’t look right. This work is essential, and we are committed to expanding these efforts and support the communities we serve”, said Jason Nordin, CEO, TravelCenters of America.
“TAT is grateful to TA for embracing the Junction Briefing model, which takes a strategic approach to ensure that employees at truck stop and travel center locations near key highway and interstate junctions are educated and equipped to respond to suspicions of human trafficking activity or to connect victims to lifesaving assistance. Through combining TAT's industry-specific training with local insights, while connecting Junction Briefing participants with the hotline and/or task force in their area, Junction Briefings help to build stronger networks that are better prepared to act effectively if an incident arises,” said Annie Sovcik, Senior Director of Programs & Strategic Initiatives, TAT.
Together, TA and TAT remain committed to equipping frontline employees with the knowledge tools, and partnerships needed to help keep travelers safe.
