FSR Manager Promotes Thanksgiving Meals, Feeds Community Residents

FSR Manager Jennifer Wahl has worked 11 Thanksgivings at the Petro Iron Skillet in Monee, Illinois. She’s become friends with many Village of Monee residents, in addition to the many professional drivers who come in.

This year, as she was preparing Thanksgiving to-go dinners, she was worried that many Village of Monee residents wouldn’t be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal because of the current COVID-19 situation.“I thought there might be people in the town that are stuck at home or separated from family right now because of COVID-19. There’s an elderly community right up the street and I was specifically imagining them sitting there alone with a TV dinner,” Jennifer said.

So Jennifer went on the town’s local Facebook page and let customers know the meal was available for sale. Jennifer and her team made 60 to-go meals that were sold out by 2 p.m.

In addition, Jennifer kept monitoring the more than 100 Facebook comments and made sure that a customer who had to work late at a local care facility had two Thanksgiving meals when she was off work at 8 p.m.
