Round 1 of TA, Petro Stopping Centers, and TA Express’ Snack Attack is in the books! We had everything from barn burners to blow outs. As a refresher, each week we will calculate sales of the standard-sized candies and snack-sized snacks Monday through Sunday. After each week, based on your purchases the strongest competitor will advance. Be sure to stop into one of our locations and help your favorites proceed to the Regional Championships.
In the Chip Region, the favorites swept the four match ups. First, Doritos Nachos vs. Snyder’s Mini Pretzel saw Doritos Nachos runaway with a commanding victory. They will faceoff in the next round against Crunchy Cheetos, who in an even matchup going in, handled Pringles easily. Next, in the highest scoring matchup this week Lays Classic moved past Doritos Cool Ranch. It was a strong showing by Cool Ranch but they just weren’t able to move on to join Doritos Nachos in the next round. Lastly, Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream vs. Bugles Original saw Ruffles handle business as they look ahead at a second round battle with Lays Classic.
The Chocolate Region powerhouses were ready to go. Snickers vs. Kinder Joy had Snickers satisfied with their dominating win. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup vs. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate was the second closest match of the week. By less than 50 peanut butter cup packs, Reese’s was able to squeak by. Will their close week one light a spark against Snickers? Let’s wait and see. Peanut M&M’s vs Kit Kat had Peanut M&M’s coming out on top in a closer matchup than Peanut M&M’s would’ve wanted. Lastly, defending bracket winner Tootsie Roll Pops was easily able to move past Twix. Even though they are the defending champions, Tootsie Pops were an underdog according to the experts. Will they use that motivation to stay perfect against Peanut M&M’s? Round 2 will tell.
Next, in the Candy Region a lot of longshots were able to move on to the next round. Original Gourmet Lollipops vs. Starburst FaveREDs had the underdog lollipops taking an easy win. They will face the only Candy Region favorite to win, Welch’s Fruit Snacks. They won the fruit snack battle against Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers. Next, the favorite Skittles went down at the hands of Doublemint Gum. They will go against Haribo Goldbears who won a gummy barnburner against Sour Patch Kids.
Lastly, the Salty Region had close matchups throughout. The favorite Planters Tube Peanuts worked past Gardetto to advance. They will face dark horse Wonderful Pistachios who barely beat Chex Mix by less than 40 in the closest matchup of the week. Next, David Sunflowers Seeds beat Cheez-Its in the closest 50/50 split among experts. They will go against Combos Cheddar Cheese Pretzels who moved by Cornnuts Original.
