Life can be unpredictable. No matter how prepared you are, sometimes things happen that are out of your control, and it’s times like these that make the St. Christopher Fund so necessary.
The St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) is a charity that helps semi-truck drivers and their families who have financial needs due to current medical problems. For 1,934 truckers to date, SCF has been indispensable and the support they needed to make it through a difficult time.
More than $1,786,026 dollars has been given on behalf of truckers in need since 2008. Those funds have gone towards things such as direct payments to providers for household living expenses, vehicle payments, insurance, prescription drugs, and some medical procedures.
SCF makes a difference in the lives of drivers and features many such stories at www.truckersfund.org.
“I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your financial help with my bills. I had to have a 5-way emergency heart bypass and am not able to work for 3 months. Without your support and caring, I may have ended up homeless. Thank you so very much for your help. You are a true Godsend and true blessing!! Thank you,” said a driver who underwent heart surgery.
A driver with high blood pressure had this to say, “I would like to thank everyone at St. Christopher! Your staff is amazing! They never made me feel like I was charity, and that means a lot! I thank God that this organization is able to help others in need. You truly blessed me and my family. God bless you all! Please donate to this wonderful relief fun!!!”
Studies have shown that more than 70 percent of the 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the U.S. have one or more serious health problems such as obesity, diabetes, sleep disorders, and cardiovascular disease. Many also lack access to health care.
TravelCenters has been supporting drivers through the SCF since 2010, most notably through the Band Together for St. Christopher Fund Program. Help make a difference by donating at participating TA and Petro locations in August. Those making $1 donations will receive a commemorative wristband and those making $5 donations will receive an SCF keychain. All donations will go 100 percent to SCF.
“We are so excited for another year of Band Together! This campaign is instrumental in allowing us the honor of offering assistance to drivers in need. The number of applications we receive skyrocket during and immediately after the campaign. This program not only raises money to help drivers, it clearly raises awareness for those in need. We are so appreciative of TA, the employees and the drivers that contribute,” said Dr. Donna Kennedy, Executive Director of SCF.
Look for Band Together for St. Christopher Fund signs at participating TA and Petro locations throughout August, and thank you for your support of drivers in need.
