Round 1 of TA, Petro Stopping Centers, and TA Express’ Candy Craziness is in the books! We had everything from barn burners to blow outs. As a refresher, each week we will calculate total units sold of the standard-sized candies Monday through Sunday. Be sure to stop into one of our locations and help your favorites proceed to the Regional Championships.
In the Chocolate Region, the favorites swept the board. Butterfinger vs. Twix saw Twix run away with a commanding Round 1 victory. They will face up against Snickers who simply overpowered Hershey’s Milk Chocolate in their matchup. In the bottom half of the Chocolate Region, Peanut M&M’s were victorious against Kinder Joy in the American vs. European battle royale. They will go against Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup who barely snuck by Kit Kat in a down to the wire affair.
The Gum & Mint Region, was the upset region. Doublemint ran away with a commanding victory up against Tic Tac Freshmints. In the next round, they will face Extra Spearmint Gum which won in a barn burner against Trident Vibes. Extra Spearmint was the only favorite picked from the Gum & Mint Region. On the bottom of the bracket, the newcomer, Tic Tac Gum upset IceBreakers Mints. In Round 2, they will go against Mentos Fruit who narrowly defeated Extra Polar Ice.
The Chewy Region, a goliath went down. But first, Tootsie Roll Pops handled Airheads and won leading away convincingly. Starburst vs. Shockers, saw Starburst outlast Shockers to advance. FaveREDs got the victory over JuicyDrop in a competitive matchup. They will face up with Original Gourmet Lollipop, who beat the goliath Skittles handily in an upset for the ages.
The Gummy Region had close matchups throughout. In the tightest match of Round 1, we saw Swedish Fish squeak by Sweet Tarts Ropes to advance. In Round 2, they will go up against Welch’s Fruit Snacks who had a commanding victory against Haribo Starmix. In the bottom part of the region, Sour Patch Kids, mischievously made it past Sather’s Orange Slices. They will face Haribo Goldbears, who snuck by Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers to make it to Round 2.
